Charles De Bourcy

Stanford University
2012 Fulbright S&T Fellow

Charles de Bourcy will be pursuing doctoral studies in Applied Physics at Stanford University. He is interested in the surprising phenomena that emerge in quantum many-body systems such as topological insulators and superconductors on the one hand, and interested in how quantum effects could be exploited for next-generation technology such as quantum information processing applications on the other hand. He is looking forward to exploring these directions and their interconnections at Stanford.

A native of Luxembourg, Charles is currently in his final year of studying for a Master of Physics degree at the University of Oxford in England. His research experience to date includes studies of multiferroics and topological insulators in the groups of Paolo Radaelli at Oxford and Nai-Chang Yeh at the California Institute of Technology respectively. Besides physics, Charles loves playing the piano -- he has performed at the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Ehrbar Hall in Vienna and the Thalia Hall in Transylvania among other venues, and is looking forward to getting involved in Stanford’s musical life.
