Antonija Oklopcic

California Institute of Technology
2011 Fulbright S&T Fellow

Antonija Oklopcic is a Croatian Ph.D. student in Astrophysics at the California Institute of Technology. She plans to carry out research in the field of cosmology - the study of the early Universe and its evolution. Cosmological research combines the use of large simulations and observations of the Universe at its young age in order to test theoretical models based on fundamental physical principles. Antonija hopes that her research will contribute to better understanding of the origin of features that constitute the Universe as we see it today.

Prior to receiving the 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Award, Antonija received her Master's degree in Physics at the University of Zagreb. She started conducting astrophysical research early in her undergraduate studies, focusing her efforts into understanding the role of wide-angle tail radio galaxies in identification of merging galaxy clusters.

When not working on research topics, Antonija enjoys participating in outreach projects, particularly those related to astronomy. Her other interests include books, movies and outdoor activities like hiking, alpine skiing and sailing.
