Juan Andrés Muniz

California Institute of Technology
2011 Fulbright S&T Fellow

Juan Andrés is a 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Fellow and a Ph.D. student in the Department of Physics at the California Institute of Technology (CalTech). His interest is the study and characterization of quantum open systems, where real interactions are taken into account. Juan’s research focuses on the study of quantum correlations in quantum optical and quantum many-body systems, where the quantum behavior is extremely manifest. He focuses on areas related to the implementation of quantum information and communication protocols that have a tremendous impact in the development of communication technologies.

Born in Montevideo, Uruguay, Juan received his Bachelor degree in Physics from the University of the Republic (UDELAR). As an undergraduate, he studied synchronization on complex networks and took part of an experiment in the laser spectroscopy group. After that, he started his Master studies at the same University. The research he carried out for his Master's concentrated on real clock models and their role on defining relational time Quantum Mechanics. He also held teaching positions in the Physics Department where he was involved in some undergraduate courses. Juan also enjoys traveling and spending time outdoors camping.

After obtaining his Ph.D., Juan plans to return to Uruguay and hopes his research will make a valuable contribution in the development of science and technology.
