Quantum Physics – Optomechanics
2011 Fulbright S&T Fellow

Su-Peng Yu is pursuing his doctoral degree in physics at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). His research, supported by the 2011 International Fulbright Science and Technology Award, focuses on quantum behavior of novel nano-mechanical structures made possible by nano-fabrication techniques. He believes the malleability and scalability of these condensed-matter based systems are potential platforms for realization of quantum information processing. Su-Peng Yu hopes to achieve ground-state cooling, protection of non-classical states, and signal amplification by real-time coherent feedback control of quantum systems.

A native of Taiwan, Su-Peng Yu received his bachelor’s degree from National Taiwan University. As an undergraduate, he made an effort to master both physics and mathematics, and has conducted research in experimental project on nano-magnetic particles and theoretical project on quantum single-spin measurement and feedback with MRFM. To satisfy his curiosity, Su-Peng Yu diversified his university life with a wide variety of courses spanning from botany to psychology. He is fond of animals, and enjoys reading, traveling, and exotic food. He also greatly enjoys talking with people from different backgrounds and professions
