Piotr Achinger
Poland University of California, Berkeley Mathematics 2011 Fulbright S&T Fellow
Piotr Achinger is a Ph.D. student in Mathematics at the University of California, Berkeley with the support of the 2011 International Fulbright Science & Technology Award. His main research interest is algebraic geometry, especially over fields of positive characteristic. The aim of this area is to understand specific positive characteristic phenomena and apply this knowledge also to problems in characteristic zero algebraic geometry thus providing a purely algebraic counterpart for the socalled transcendental methods.
Born in Poland, Piotr attended the double Master's degree program in Mathematics and Computer Science at Warsaw University. He coorganized the Polish Mathematical Olympiad and the Scientific Summer Schools for gifted highschool students. Before arriving in California, he spent a year enjoying hospitality of the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics in Bonn, Germany.
